Minister Patel brings smiles to faces of children in Soshanguve

Minister of Economic Development, Mr Ebrahim Patel, is surrounded by the delighted children of Luvuyo Youth Care Centre in Soshanguve, where he donated T-shirts and blankets to the institution to mark Mandela Day, on 18 July 2016.

Minister of Economic Development, Mr Ebrahim Patel, provided the much needed hope to the children of an orphanage in Soshanguve during a visit to the institution to mark Mandela Day on Monday, 18 July 2016.

The Luvuyo Youth Care Centre is a home to 33 homeless children, aged between eight months and 22 years old, who have either suffered domestic abuse or are living with the HIV virus.

Since the centre started operating in 2003, it had managed to accommodate 352 children, of which 22 are permanently residing there.

Speaking individually to the children and asking them simple questions about their current studies and envisaged future careers, after a walk-about around the institution, Minister Patel motivated them to acquire as much knowledge as possible so that they could make informed decisions about their future careers.

All Service Providers and Businesses

The Economic Development Department wishes to advise members of the public, particularly those in business, to be alert to a scam utilizing the logo of the Economic Development Department. The fraudsters involved send unsuspecting business operators a Request for Quotations for the provision of Solar Panels.

As the Economic Development Department, we wish to state that we do not have such a project, and therefore beware that the Request for Quotation is not from the Economic Development Department.

Please confirm any request you receive with our Supply Chain Management division on these details 012 394 3579. Report these fraudulent activities to the SAPS or call the Anti Corruption hotline 0800 701 701 or SMS to 39772 or send an email to fraud@economic.gov.za.
